Cats protection Southend branch
Cats Protection Southend & District have several cats that need a home so if you can offer one of their rescue cats a home, please call Rita on 01702 710630.One of our volunteers will then arrange to visit your home. The visits are necessary to make sure that you understand your commitments and responsibilities, explain the costs which might can be high - particularly veterinary expenses, and check that your home is suitable - even if you have had a cat before.
Following the visit, we will suggest cats that might be suitable and, if you wish, arrange for you to view them at the homes of the fosterers where all of them live until a home is found. We aim to home only healthy cats. Occasionally it is possible to home cats with known manageable and treatable health problems, but only with your consent.
All of our cats are litter-trained, but accidents can happen when a cat goes into a new home - so please be patient. All cats offered for homing have been checked by a vet, vaccinated and micro-chipped. They will also have been deflea’d and wormed. If they are over 5 months old they will have been neutered. We ask for an adoption fee of £60 which will go towards the expenses we have incurred. Any more will be gratefully received.
Britain's oldest charity
Cats Protection is Britain's oldest charity solely for the welfare of cats. All our work is carried out by volunteers and last year the Southend & District branch helped nearly 1,000 needy cats, including finding new homes for more than 430 cats and kittens.
Over the same period we succeeded in re-uniting more than 90 cats with their owners through our lost & found register. We also arrange for cats to be neutered when their owners cannot afford the cost of the operation - for details, please refer to our neutering scheme.
The Southend & District branch covers Eastwood, Leigh-on-Sea, Rochford, Shoeburyness, Southend-on-Sea, Thorpe Bay, Wakering and Westcliff-on-Sea within postcodes SS0, SS1, SS2, SS3, SS4 and SS9. An urgent appeal for cat fosterers
We urgently need people to offer to foster, ie look after our cats and kittens. Sadly, we don't have enough places for every cat we are asked to help, hence we are always looking for new fosterers and, at this time of year, homing slows down and the waiting list of cats and kittens needing our help grows ever longer.
The fostering of a cat is usually short term, because we are constantly looking for new homes - sometimes fostering would only be a matter of days. It is a very rewarding thing to do and there would be no financial cost to you. All you need to provide is a comfortable and safe place for a cat to sleep and lots of love.
If you do not have space indoors, such as a spare room, would you consider having a cat pen in your garden? They are properly built, and would offer a cat, without any shelter at this time of year, a temporary home until we find him or her, or them, their new permanent home.
We urgently need more fosterers. We have a list of cats that need to come into our care and we are limited as to how many we can take at the moment because of a lack of fosterers.
If you have some time to spare and are willing to make a commitment to the cats, please contact Val on 01268 794648. She will be happy to give you any more information you may need.
Rayleigh Branch History
The branch was formed in August 1984 by Christine Wren, a young business woman, who was concerned about the welfare of cats in this part of South East Essex. Originally called the Canvey Island Group, the branch changed its name to encompass the whole area.
As Christine lived on Canvey lsland, she called it the Canvey Island Group. However it was realised that this title was misleading as the group's boundaries stretched as far afield as Hullbridge. As our main area covered Rayleigh, it was suggested by the Regional Director that the group bear the town's name. So, we became the Rayleigh, Castle Point and District Group.
Today the area we cover includes Canvey Island, Benfleet, Thundersley, Hadleigh, Rayleigh, Hockley, Hullbridge and Lower Hockley.
Money is always tight and, to raise funds, we organise various events, details of which can be found on our Events page so if you are able to assist in organising an event in your area, please contact us.
We are also looking for volunteers. If you can help foster cats and kittens; transport and collect goods for sale; take and collect cats to and from the vets; store goods for sale .. in fact, anything that would help, please contact any of our volunteers.
